First edition of this compendium of geographical knowledge & bibliography by this Strasburg born classical scholar, editor and antiquary. After showing much early promise in antiquarian pursuits and study under Schoeflin and beginning his career as a teacher, Oberlin was appointed librarian to the university. In 1770 he became an assistant lecturer for the chair of Latin eloquence and in this capacity gave courses on antiquitIes, diplomatics and ancient geography. To aid his students he published valuable aids to study including the work here which were later adopted by other universities. The work gives the names of topographical features by country including Europe, Africa and Asia AND INCLUDES AN EXTENSIVE BIBLIOGRAPHY OF WRITERS ON CLASSICAL GEOGRAPHY. A very good copy (clean tear to one leaf). Appears rare outside Europe.
